Airman Rook Pinning With Badges
Lt. Col. Ben Cleghorn and Sgt. Andrew Maley, of the 817th Engineer Company, pin Distinguished Marksmanship Badges on the uniform of Senior Airman Gavin Rook, of the 119th Wing, at the 2019 North Dakota National Guard Adjutant General's Combat Marksmanship Match at the Camp Grafton Training Center firing complex, near McHenry, North Dakota, July 14, 2019. Rook has been accruing points over the past few years shooting, winning and placing at accreted excellence in competition (EIC) matches and this competition earned him enough points to achieve Distinguished Marksmanship Badges in both rifle and pistol shooting. At age 22, Rook is the youngest North Dakota National Guard shooter to earn the Distinguished Marksmanship Badge in both rifle and in pistol. He is believed to be the first North Dakota Air National Guard member to 'go double-distinguished.' Staff Sgt. Evan Messer, of the 817th Engineer Company, was previously the youngest North Dakota National Guard double-distinguished shooter.
