The Happy Hooligans - 60 Years of Vigilance

I - Looking Ahead.

Wed, Apr 2 - Fargo-Moorhead area retired Hooligans' monthly breakfast, 8:00 a.m. at the Northtown Grill (I-29 &12th Ave N - Fargo).

Colonel Mike Wobbema, 119th Wing, will be our guest at the breakfast.
Col. Wobbema recently returned from Iraq where he was instrumental in
the rebuilding of Iraqi's air force. It promises to be an exciting
presentation, followed by a Q & A session.

Thu, Apr 3 - Mesa, Arizona and surrounding area Hooligans' monthly breakfast, 9:00 a.m., at the IHOP Restaurant on Power Road, south of Baseline Road.

Wed, Apr 9 - Semiannual WSO Reunion. C'mon out for this social event and take a tour of the remodeled Ops building, #218.

6:00 p. m. Auger Inn doors open. Pizzas are available ($6.00 ea) in a variety of choices. You may meet here OR meet at the south door of the Ops building at 6:30 for the tour

6:30 p. m. Tour of the remodeled Ops building.

7:00 p. m. Semiannual WSO Reunion. - the Auger Inn.

Note: Hooligan clothing and other items will be on sale, including t-shirts, wind shirts, caps, scarves and mittens, mugs; also prints (painted by our own SRA Laura Harris), depicting our P-51 and F-16.

Sat, Apr 19 - Detroit Lakes area Happy Hooligans bimonthly breakfast, 8:00 a.m., at the Detroit Lakes Holiday Inn.

Fri, Apr 25 - Auger Inn Fish Feed. The doors open at 6:00 p.m. Tickets, $25.00, are on sale at the Auger Inn or you may call Brad Johnson at 451-2421 to reserve a ticket. Note: see attachment, "Fish Fry 2008".

II - The Past Month in Review.

*A former F-16 pilot, now on the UAV side of the house, was the guest at the March 5th breakfast at the Northtown Grill. It was a fascinating presentation followed by a question and answer session.

*The March 6th breakfast in Mesa, Arizona drew quite a few visitors. Those enjoying this event were Russ & Jean Bernstein, Roger Buchholz, Don & Keney Foster, Bill & Nita Frahm, Duane & Kathy Hinsperger, Dave & Irene Hoff, John Hovdenes, Duane Johnson, Bill & Donna Newell, Bill Phelan, Russ & Jo Parson, Ray & Lois Riedman, Doug Slowiak, Dan & Yvonne Utke.

III - This 'N That.

*North Dakota Guardian and the future of the Jet Letter, by Capt. Penny A. Ripperger, 119th Wing Public Affairs Officer.

In Jan. the N.D. Army and Air National Guard collaborated to create a new joint publication called the North Dakota Guardian. Every guard member and retiree should have received the first copy of this publication in January.

The 119th Wing will continue to create publication of the Jet Letter. The Jet Letter will primarily be a tool to communicate drill-specific information.

Retirees, and spouses, are invited to send their favorite recipes to Kellie Goschen, along with your name, for publishing in the book. Sep 5, 6, 7 - North Dakota Nat'l Guard Retirees' Annual Reunion at Camp Grafton, Devils Lake, ND.

V - The Other Side of the Field.

Hector Field Base Exchange.

Camping and gardening items are stocked, including charcoal grills and weed- wackers. Computer accessories are also in stock. A Pioneer Home Theater is on display along with large screen TVs.

Take notice that the BX private label, Exchange Select, may result in a 20% - 50% savings.

Base Exchange hours are: 10:00 a. m. - 5:00 p. m. (Monday thru Friday);
10:00 a. m. - 4:00 p. m. (UTA weekends). April UTAs are the 12th & 13th of the month.

Annual Fish Fry at the Auger Inn - April 25th, doors open at 6pm.  Tickets are available from any Auger Inn board member or at the Auger Inn.

Summer Writing Workshops For Disabled Veterans: National Theater Workshop of the Handicapped (NTWH) has announced the dates for the 2008 sessions of the NTWH Writers' Program for Wounded Warriors:

> Writers' Session 1: July 1-12
> Writers' Session 2: July 22-Aug 2

Entering their 3rd year, these residential dramatic writing workshops are geared to help recently returning wounded armed forces service members make their transition back into society, and into the community of persons with disabilities. 

Full scholarships, including travel, room & board and tuition are provided to all qualified candidates. As these workshops are geared toward the recently returning veterans, first priority is given to those who have participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom.
