Brigadier General PATRICK L MARTIN

Brigadier General Patrick Martin currently serves as the Chief of Joint Staff and Assistant Adjutant General for Air, Joint Force Headquarters, Bismarck, ND.

Brig Gen Martin is a successful graduate from Squadron Officer School, Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, and Advanced Joint Professional Military Education (AJPME). He became the Chief of Joint Staff, and the Assistant Adjutant General for Air in April 2007.

Born, raised and still residing in Pelican Rapids, MN, he graduated with honors from Pelican Rapids High School in 1973 and from North Dakota State University with honors and a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic and Electrical Engineering in 1983.

Enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1974, he served until 1979 as a Petty Officer Second Class. He joined the North Dakota Air National Guard in 1981 as a Staff Sergeant working on F-4 aircraft avionics systems until receiving his commission in 1985. From 1985 - 1995 he served as a Civil Engineering Officer in the 119th Civil Engineering Squadron where he supervised and coordinated assigned projects for 305-person squadron as well as being responsible for the design and construction programs at the 119th Fighter Wing.

In 1995 he assumed the duties of BioEnvironmental Engineer in the 119th Medical Squadron where he managed all base bioenvironmental engineering programs and coordinated with the Army National Guard, until 1997. In 1997 he assumed the responsibilities of Logistics Management Officer where his primary purpose was to direct and manage division functional areas as well as to be responsible for the effective management of Supply, Contracting, Traffic Management, and Transportation functions for the 119th Fighter Wing.

From 1997 - 1999 he served as the 119th Logistics Squadron Commander, responsible for all functions of a fighter aircraft logistics squadron. In 1999, in order to meet an essential Wing manning need, he once again assumed the duties of the BioEnvironmental Engineer until he became the Mission Support Group Commander in 2001. In April 2004 he was assigned the position of 119th Fighter Wing Vice Commander. In September 2006 he was assigned to the position of J5 Directorate in Joint Forces Headquarters, and in April 2007 he was dual hatted as the Chief of Joint Staff, and the Assistant Adjutant General for Air, in Joint Forces Headquarters, positions he holds to this very day.

His interests include active memberships in the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and Lifetime member and past Chairman of National Guard Association of the United States (NGAUS). He is also a member and past President of Trinity Lutheran Church in his home community. He enjoys flying, hunting, mechanical repairs, snow and water skiing, and helping others to succeed.
