Sgt. The Soldier is a members of a North Dakota National Guard quick response force team that has been sent to the rural home by the Cass County tactical operations center. About 500 Guardsmen are currently conducting flood operations in North Dakota, with the vast majority in Cass County.

Benton is one of several North Dakota National Guard members monitoring temporary flood barriers for possible problem areas and is also watching for unauthorized people on, or near the levees. The North Dakota National Guard members are monitoring the flood protection levees on 12-hour shifts, 24-hours a day until the flood waters recede. As of Saturday April 9, appoximately 450 N.D. Air and Army Guardsman are on flood response for the 2011 flood fight.
